Perimenopause Can Begin Before Your Periods Stop
Perimenopause is the transition leading up to menopause. During this time, changing hormone patterns may affect menstrual cycles and contribute to symptoms involving sleep, temperature regulation, mood, concentration, energy, and other areas of health.
Perimenopause
This transition can begin years before the final menstrual period. Periods may still occur regularly at first, and symptoms can change over time.
Menopause
Menopause is confirmed after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period when there is no other medical explanation.
Postmenopause
Postmenopause refers to the years after menopause. Some symptoms improve, while others may continue or require ongoing attention.

Looking Beyond a Single Symptom or Lab Result
1. Your Symptoms and Timeline
Doctor Hudson will discuss your menstrual patterns, when your symptoms began, how they have changed, and how they are affecting your daily life.
2. Your Complete Health Picture
Your evaluation may include your personal and family medical history, current medications, sleep, stress, nutrition, physical activity, weight changes, existing conditions, and relevant laboratory results.
3. Your Needs and Priorities
You will have time to discuss your concerns, goals, treatment preferences, and questions. Doctor Hudson will use this information to recommend appropriate next steps, additional evaluation, or coordination with another healthcare provider when needed.

Midlife Changes Can Affect Metabolic Health, Too
Perimenopause and menopause occur during a stage of life when changes in hormones, sleep, stress, activity, muscle mass, and daily routines may also affect weight and metabolic health.
Doctor Hudson looks beyond the menstrual cycle to consider concerns such as:
- Weight gain or changes in where weight is carried
- Loss of muscle or changes in body composition
- Increasing blood pressure
- Changes in blood sugar or A1C
- High cholesterol or triglycerides
- Fatigue that makes regular activity more difficult
- Sleep problems that affect appetite, energy, and daily functioning
When appropriate, your care may connect with Capital Healing’s medical weight loss program or cardiometabolic health care. The goal is to support how you feel now while also paying attention to your long-term health.
